Mandi and A.J.

Last week, I drove about a mile from my workplace and sat down for what I knew was going to be a tough interview: I spoke with a father who had recently lost one of his twin daughters and newborn granddaughter.

I remember typing up the obituaries that Monday morning in November after it had happened, struggling to believe that with today's technology, at least one of them couldn't be saved.

Although I had some pretty hard questions jotted down in my notebook, really, I just sat there and listened for an hour and a half while he told the story of his daugher, Mandi.

Parent or not, his story is tragic.
